Driving Costa Rica

Driving a rented vehicle in Costa Rica is the best way to really get to know the country.

Your country's license or an international license is accepted in Costa Rica. It is also necessary to present your passport. It is very important to verify that the passport is stamped with the date of entry into the country.

Vehicles are driven on the right side of the road. Speed limits are set depending on road conditions. Speed limits are different in rural and urban areas.

As in other countries around the world, Costa Rica faces the challenge of keeping foreign citizens and visitors safe. Avoid problems by following the following recommendations:

• Enterprise Rent a Car has more than thirty offices located in the most visited tourist centers in the country. The Central Offices are located in Heredia, Belén, of the Costa Rica Marriot Hotel 500 meters to the east and 300 meters to the south.

• If you are in the city, do not leave the vehicle parked on the street. Instead, please use the parking spaces.

• Do not leave valuables visible inside the vehicle, such as cameras, luggage or bags that could attract the attention of thieves.

• If you have a flat tire, or if someone tells you there is something wrong with your vehicle, or if your car is hit from behind, don't stop. Look for police assistance or drive to a public place

• Avoid stopping when asked to drive by a stranger.

• If you need to review a map, do so in a safe, public place, or ask a police officer for the directions you are looking for. Do not stop in front of strangers

• All damages caused to the vehicle will be the responsibility of the customer, therefore we suggest to be careful with it. In case of damage to the tires, glass or blows, these will be paid by the client

• Tickets for infraction of the Traffic Law made by the police must be paid at the Bank. Never pay directly to them.

• The vehicle is delivered with a full tank of fuel. We recommend filling the tank before returning the vehicle and thus not having to pay a higher price than at the gas station. When you fill the tank, use super gasoline

• Confirm the date and time of the return of the vehicle with the respective office, in this way they will be waiting for you at the place you request.
